I'm a big film buff and as they say film reflects life, so here are some of my favorite movie lines that make me think and say to myself like "oh yeah" makes a lot of sense (or at least to my life):
2001 Space Odyssey
HAL 9000: I know everything hasn't been quite right with me, but I can assure you now, very confidently, that it's going to be all right again. I feel much better now. I really do.
About Schimdt
Schimdt: Relatively soon, I will die. Maybe in 20 years, maybe tomorrow, it doesn't matter. Once I am dead and everyone who knew me dies too, it will be as though I never existed. What difference has my life made to anyone. None that I can think of. None at all.
Accepted
Ben Lewis: What is education? It's paying attention, it's opening yourself up to this great big ball of shit that we call life, and what's the worst thing that can happen? You get bit in the ass! Well let me tell you, my ass looks like hamburger meat, but I can still sit down!
The Age of Innocence
Ellen Olenska: You couldn't be happy if it meant being cruel. If we act any other way, I'll be making you act against what I love in you most. And I can't go back to that way of thinking. Don't you see! I can't love you unless I give you up.
American Beauty
Lester Burnham: This isn't life, it's just stuff. And it's become more important to you than living. Well, honey, that's just nuts.
I'm just an ordinary guy with nothing to lose.
American Graffiti
Curt Henderson: Somebody wants me. Somebody's who's out there, roaming the streets, wants ME... Would you turn the corner?
Annie Hall
Alvy Singer: Love is too weak a word for what I feel - I luuurve you, you know, I loave you, I luff you, two F's, yes I have to invent, of course I - I do, don't you think I do? You know how you're always trying to get things to come out perfect in art, because it's real difficult in life.
Blade Runner
Deckard: I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life... anybody's life... my life. All he'd wanted was the same answers the rest of us want. Where do I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do is sit there and watch him die.
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Paul Varjak: You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness."
Full Metal Jacket
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn. I am hard, but I am fair!
Garden State:
Sam: What do you do? You laugh. I'm not saying I don't cry, but in between, I laugh. And I realize how silly it is to take anything too seriously. Plus, I look forward to a good cry. It feels pretty good.
This is your one opportunity to do something that no one has ever done before, and that no one will copy throughout human existence. And if nothing else, you will be remembered as the one guy who ever did this. This one thing.
High Fidelity
Rob: She's a single. I'm a single. I'm a single man talking to an attractive single woman who may or may not have just confessed to feelings of sexual frustration. Oh my God...
We have one of those conversations where everything clicks, meshes, corresponds, locks, where even our pauses, even our punctation marks, seem to be nodding in agreement.
THX 1138
THX 1138: What am I to her or she to me? Nothing. She's an ordinary roommate. I share rooms with her. Our relationship is normal, conforming. We share nothing but space. Bugs Bunny: Don't take life too seriously you'll never get out of it alive.
